The New EBook Book Reader From Acer Inc. In Line To Join Amazon
Acer., no slouch when it comes to competing in the P.C space, have announced their plans to enter the ebook book reader arena later on this year.
Acer senior manager Jim Wong, president of the companies IT Products group, outlined the plans through an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's HQ in Taipei.
On the eve of Apple's alleged entrance into the tablet sweeps-a device that will serve electronic-book readers in addition to others-Wong also said the company will in addition offer "hundreds" of apps online, programs which will support Google's Android program, now running on some Acer products, as well as supporting Microsoft's Windows OS.
By July, Acer will be expected to make available an electronic-book reader with a 6-inch black and white screen, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Kindle and Barnes & Noble; they are American. In Western Europe and Asia-Pacific we have publishers to work with, and nearly everyone of them are content owners," he alleged. Acer will go up against devices including the Kindle , B&N Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Reader and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-if it appears-in its sights. "We are developing something, and we will see what happens" J.T. Wang, Acer's president, said in the report. "We are going to perform either in the Windows world or in Google's distinct OS space."
